About Horn Craft :

The process starts with Craft Artists picking horns of deceased animals in forests. Each piece is being carefully chosen by considering factors like natural colour, quality and shape. These horns are dried at sun temperature for specific duration which varies depending upon the environmental condition and season. Horns by nature are very durable & requires no maintenance at all. Each horn goes through several processes , which include cutting, modelling and polishing before getting the final shape.

Cutting & Modelling :

Cow horns, Buffalo horns, stag antlers, tusks are used in horn craft. The desired object is carved from the solid part of a horn after soaking it in water. The process is very time consuming & requires high degree of experience & craftsmanship.

Shaping is necessary for the different designs, the carved piece is heated to a specific temperature and then shaped. Later its surfaces are smoothed down with the help of a rough file, flat file or half round file and a sharp stainless steel blade till the perfection is made.

Polishing :

Once the horn has been cut into the desired shapes, goes through for polish. The horns are rub in eight-count sand papers and later with wet Khrshana leaves on rough surfaces. The polishing is continued till the horn surfaces become smooth and shiny. Later it is thoroughly cleaned with tap water and dried in room temperature. It is further polished with cow dung ash or charcoal ash after which parts are assembled. Either limestone paste or white varnish is applied to highlight the desired section of the product. In the final step, coconut oil is smeared all over it which gives the horn a beautiful & shinny look.

Caution :

Horns are natural products and they are unique in color. No two items of the similar product will match in terms of size, colour, weight & pattern exactly as they are handmade to perfection. The actual color might vary from the color displayed in the website due to photography lighting environment.
